A heavyweight among the listed renewable energy options.
The Renewables Infrastructure Group is one of the largest listed renewable energy companies by market cap, valued at a hefty £1.1 billion at the time of writing. Managed by the Mayfair-based InfraRed Capital Partners, its operational manager is named Renewable Energy Systems.
The listed outfit invest in renewable energy assets across the UK and Northern Europe, with its primary focus lying in onshore wind and solar PV.
Its portfolio comprises 27 onshore wind projects, 28 solar PV and one offshore wind farm and one battery storage operation, with a total capacity of 820 megawatts. It is a dividend paying stock paying a circa 6% yield.
Its geographic breakdown by its portfolio is 29% in England, 10% in Wales, 43% in Scotland, 6% in Northern Ireland, 1% in France and 11% in Ireland.
Overseeing the action at TRIG is chairman Helen Mahy. A former board member on the National Grid, she also holds a directorship at Bonheur ASA, a Norwegian holding company for the Olsen family, a Norwegian shipping dynasty.
The three directors on the board are Jon Bridel, Shelagh Mason and Klaus Hammer. Bridel was previously the managing director of the Royal Bank of Canada’s investment businesses in the Channel Islands and currently holds a number of directorships at funds including the Alcentra European Floating Rate Income Fund.
Mason is a property solicitor and a director at Medicx Fund, an investor in healthcare property. Meanwhile Hammer is a veteran of oil and gas heavyweight Royal Dutch Shell and serves on the board of directors at Horizon Nuclear Power, among others.
TRIG is one of the largest options for those looking to invest in a portfolio of renewable assets. It is a long established company and on the other end of the spectrum to some of the speculative plays open to investors.
