How do wind turbines work?

Wind power is a relatively simple technology

Wind turbines, as the name suggests, are powered by wind. The blades of the wind turbine move and  then spin a shaft, which is used to generate electricity.

Wind is one of the oldest types of renewable energy. Wind energy was used as early as 7th century Iran, subsequently appearing in Europe in the 11th century. The Dutch and Germans were both renowned for their skill in making windmills.

World leader in wind Denmark has a long history of being involved in wind technology, however it was in the 1970s when wind technology took off in the Scandinavian minnow, giving birth to a hub of talent that led to Vestas and Dong Energy.
