Eqtec is one of the only options for investors looking at a listed waste to energy business.
Eqtec is an AIM listed company that specialises in RDF. RDF for those not in the know is an industry term to refer to refuse derived fuel or fuel made from materials such as non recyclable plastic, paper, cardboard and a variety of other materials.
Eqtec works with local authorities and regional councils in areas where RDF is being wasted, typically by being sent abroad for disposal. It instead uses the waste to produce electricity to the local grid. The company notes that in the case of the UK circa 4 million tonnes is exported in the UK for disposal.
Its technology offerings comprise its key gasification platform and software sold alongside it for usage at the energy plants hosting the gasification technology.
Its most recent projects have included a 4 megawatt gasification plant in Newry in County Down, Northern Ireland and the other is a 12 megawatt combined heating and power project in Derbyshire.
The company itself has a tiny market cap of £3 million, most recently generating sales of £250,000 for the year to December.
